In recent years the number of environmentally caused disasters has increased. "APRS TRANSMISSION ON OVERRANGE" was designed to extend and support the official alerts and warning systems in a simple, lowcost way. ATOOR uses the AX.25-protocol and runs as an application for the HAM APRS-net.
TRANSMIT ON OVERRANGE
To keep the APRS-net's noise as small as possible environmental warnings should be transmitted only when critical thresholds have been exceeded.
HARDWARE
The encoder uses a Microchip PIC 12F675 mikrocontroller. An external sensor for the measured environmental variable can be connected to the analog input (0-5 V). Sensors with a frequency output (e.g. windspeed) can be interfaced with a simple frequency-to-voltage converter (monoflop + LP-filter).
TRIPLE USE
In addition to the ATOOR function, the encoder can also work as a telemetry or as a simple tracker. Choose one of the modes configurating the encoder in the following ways:
Note: As tracking is not
its main task ATOOR's firmware doesn't support
the velocity adapting beacon timing, which is a feature of
some other tracking modems.
A GPS device is desirable. NMEA 0183 RMC and GGA are supported. Set it to 4800 bd.

ATOOR-code is a part of the usertext. Don't forget to use the "~"-symbol to mark the begin and the end of the symbol number. So high level software, which is rendering APRS stations on maps, can easily detect the warnings.
